Devendra's Story
7.05.2009 - Labels: Bishram Ministries, Bishram School of Missions, burleson, christ journey church, john, nashville texas, nepal, old town burleson, sending - 1 Comments
Devendra Acharya, a native missionary in Nepal joined the Journey this morning. Nepal is a mountainous country (ever heard of Mt. Everest?), and primarily a Hindu culture with a similar caste system to what you would find in India, which it borders. Devendra is the Senior Pastor of Bishram Ministries and founder/director of the Bishram School of Missions located in Kathmandu. Since its inception in 2001 the Bishram Church and school has planted around 45 churches comprised of over 100 house churches representing around 8000 people.
Devendra is one of Bret's classmates, and we were blessed to hear his story of encounter and ministry with the Lord. He points to John 15:16 as his life verse, and today, we were invited into his story and challenged to "go and bear fruit" as those chosen by the Lord.

I wonder, what was the most impacting aspect of this morning's gathering for everyone?
for me it was definitely Devendra's prayer in Napalese before Communion. There was something about that experience that grabbed me. Part of it was, again, the image of all nations and peoples gathering around the throne of Jesus. But there was also something powerful about hearing words like "Christ Journey" and "house church" and "communion" sprinkled in the midst of words that I couldn't understand...and yet understood very well.
How about you?
